Most hydrated lime looks the same in a sample bag: a fine white powder. In a dry scrubber, the difference appears in the reaction zone. A sorbent with more surface area and pore volume exposes more calcium hydroxide to acid gases, which can improve utilization and reduce the amount of unreacted material leaving the system. That is the design brief behind Tianjin Huineng Environmental Protection Technology Co., Ltd.'s high-specific-surface calcium hydroxide and high-end calcium hydroxide lines. The company manufactures both products in Tianjin for flue gas treatment, water treatment and calcium-based new materials, with reference projects across steel, coking, glass, waste-to-energy and chemical wastewater operations.
What High Specific Surface Area Changes in Dry Desulfurization
Calcium hydroxide used in dry flue gas desulfurization is not judged by purity alone. The reaction depends on how much reactive surface contacts the gas stream and how quickly the particles disperse in the duct or reactor. Tianjin Huineng's high-specific-surface grade is produced from high-activity quicklime with customized composite active additives, and process parameters are controlled to build a porous structure rather than a dense, low-reactivity powder.
The published figures show the difference. First grade reaches at least 90% calcium hydroxide purity, at least 45 m2/g specific surface area, at least 0.2 cm3/g pore volume, a 325 mesh sieve rate of 90%, drying loss of no more than 1%, and heavy metal content of no more than 10 mg/kg. Superior grade raises purity to at least 95%, specific surface area to at least 55 m2/g, pore volume to at least 0.25 cm3/g and the 325 mesh sieve rate to 95%, while holding heavy metals at no more than 10 mg/kg and drying loss at no more than 1%.
Those numbers matter in operation. Higher surface area and pore volume create more contact points for sulfur dioxide and other acid gases. A finer, more consistent powder can disperse more evenly across the flue gas path, which supports stable dosing and more complete reaction. The product is used as a substitute for sodium bicarbonate in dry flue gas desulfurization, with an operating temperature range from ambient temperature up to 500°C. The desulfurized ash is calcium-based solid waste and is available for resource recovery, an important advantage for plants managing solid waste volumes alongside emission limits.
Two Product Lines for Different Process Duties
Tianjin Huineng operates a production base with a 100,000 metric ton per year line for high-specific-surface calcium hydroxide, alongside a 150,000 ton per year high-end calcium hydroxide production base. The high-specific-surface product is aimed at dry desulfurization, water treatment and high-end calcium-based new materials. The high-end product is built for stable performance in automated dosing systems, water treatment duties and use as a raw material for calcium stearate and petroleum lubricants.
The high-end grade is controlled for purity, heavy metals, particle size and moisture. First grade offers at least 90% calcium hydroxide purity, heavy metals at no more than 10 mg/kg, a 325 mesh sieve rate of 90%, drying loss of no more than 0.5% and whiteness of 90. Superior grade reaches at least 95% purity, the same heavy metal limit, a 95% sieve rate, drying loss of no more than 0.5% and whiteness of 92. Low heavy metals are critical for municipal and industrial water treatment, where strict limits apply to the treatment chemicals used in the process.
Packaging is designed around long-distance sea freight. The high-end product is supplied in 25 kg, 50 kg, 750 kg and 1,000 kg woven bags with PE inner liners, a combination that protects the powder from moisture and helps prevent caking during transport. Warehouse and loading images show the product as a fine white powder, with moisture-proof bags and jumbo bags stored indoors and moved by forklift for truck loading. The 25 kg bags are date-marked, and the packaging system is built to keep the material free-flowing from arrival through dosing.
Where the Product Fits in the Plant
The reference list covers several demanding duties. Baowu Steel Shaogang Co., Ltd. uses the product for 4500 blast furnace hot stove desulfurization. Shougang Jingtang Iron & Steel Co., Ltd. applies it in dry coke quenching desulfurization. Shandong Taishan Shenglvyuan Glass Co., Ltd. uses it for dry desulfurization plus SCR denitrification. Tianjin Quantai Domestic Waste Treatment Co., Ltd. uses it for acid removal in a 350 ton per day waste-to-energy boiler.
In water treatment and chemical processing, Tianjin Liqun Investment Co., Ltd. uses the product for electroplating wastewater, while Chengde Jianlong Special Steel Co., Ltd. applies it in industrial wastewater treatment. Beyond flue gas and wastewater, the product serves as a calcium source for high-end calcium-based new materials, including calcium stearate and petroleum lubricant raw materials. The common thread is controlled reactivity: the customer needs a powder that mixes, disperses and reacts predictably in an existing process.
Engineering Support Behind the Supply
Tianjin Huineng is a national high-tech enterprise with 35 years of experience in flue gas waste heat recovery and environmental pollution control. The company owns a Municipal Enterprise Technology Center and employs one expert entitled to a State Council Special Allowance, 14 senior engineers and 35 professional engineers. Its annual sales exceed RMB 600 million, and its business covers metallurgy, power generation, non-ferrous metals, chemical, building materials and inorganic salt sectors.
The company holds qualifications for the design and manufacture of boilers and pressure vessels, as well as Class-II General Contracting for special environmental engineering projects. It provides EPC and O&M services for flue gas desulfurization and denitrification and flue gas waste heat recovery systems. That engineering background supports the product business in a practical way. Huineng can discuss the sorbent alongside the dosing system, the reactor conditions and the ash handling route, rather than selling a powder as an isolated commodity.
The company also maintains long-term cooperation with universities and research institutes, and works with domestic engineering institutes in metallurgy, coking and building materials. Its partner and customer network includes Baowu, Ansteel, Shougang, MCC Jingcheng, MCC Southern Engineering and MCC Coking & Refractory. For overseas buyers, this matters during supplier qualification: the product is backed by a production base, a technical team and a project record in industries where downtime and non-compliance are expensive.
Why Calcium-Based Dry Scrubbing Is Gaining Ground
Dry flue gas treatment is under pressure from two directions. Emission limits for sulfur dioxide and acid gases continue to tighten, while plant operators want stable reagent supply and predictable operating costs. Sodium bicarbonate has been a common choice for dry scrubbing, but its price and availability can move with markets outside the plant's control. High-specific-surface calcium hydroxide offers a calcium-based alternative, provided the sorbent has enough reactivity to work within the existing temperature window and residence time.
That is where surface area, pore volume and particle size distribution become commercial factors, not just laboratory data. A more porous hydrated lime can deliver more reactive contact per ton, helping plants make better use of each dose. The operating range from ambient temperature up to 500°C gives engineers flexibility across different flue gas streams. The calcium-based ash can also be directed toward resource recovery, which aligns with the direction of solid waste management in many industrial markets.
For distributors, the opportunity is not simply selling bags of lime. It is supplying a specified material with consistent batch performance, moisture-proof packaging and technical support from a manufacturer that understands flue gas systems. The product range covers first grade and superior grade, allowing buyers to match the specification to the duty rather than over-specifying every application.
Request a Specification Match
If you are evaluating a calcium-based sorbent for dry desulfurization, water treatment or calcium-based new materials, share your process conditions with Tianjin Huineng: flue gas temperature, inlet and outlet acid gas targets, dosing method, storage arrangements and required packaging. The team can confirm the suitable grade, discuss bulk supply and provide the current technical data sheet for your qualification process.
